ShopTunes

From the time I was a youth there have been two constants in my life: woodworking and music. As a lifelong vinyl record collector, music plays a huge inspiration in the shop. When the tools are out and there are shavings to be made you can bet there are tunes blasting out of the Hi-Fi. Here is a list of what's currently on heavy rotation at Shopclass.

Lijadu Sisters- Danger Groove laden Afro-Beat circa 1970. Killer fuzz guitar and organ over hypnotic beats.

Allen Toussaint- Complete Warner Recordings Known primarily for his producing credits, but also released some amazing New Orleans soul albums.

Yo La Tango- This Stupid World Four decades into a legendary career Yo La Tango continue to release records that are fresh and invigorating. Definitely a high water mark in their discography

Anika-Change Spellbinding pop from the English artist whose surreal vocal style draws upon her dub, punk and 60’s girl group influences.

Pavement- Terror Twilight A fitting farewell for one of the greatest Indy rock bands of the 90’s. Only gets better with age

Seafaring Strangers- Private Yacht A treasure trove of 70’s private press yacht rock. Another great reissue from Numero Group. One of the best labels around.
